The Foundation was incorporated on 11th July 2014 as Baba Kafi Orphans Foundation, a non-political, non-profit, non-governmental, community-based association. The name was amended to Mallam Baba Kafi Orphans Foundation and registered with Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, on 23rd December 2020. Its registered office which is also its headquarters is located at No 6, Yankari Street, AMSSCO Platinum City Estate, Galadimawa District, Abuja, FCT.

The Aims and Objectives of the Foundation are as follows:

  1. To provide for the education (secular and Islamic) and general welfare of orphans while they reside with their guardians who are saddled with the responsibility of their care and moral upbringing.
  2. To provide skills acquisition programme for orphans and generally assist them to be self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities and society at large.

To network with relevant partners in providing care and support for orphans.

The Foundation provides scholarship for the orphans which covers school fees, provision of school uniforms, books and educational materials as well as monthly upkeep allowance for the orphans paid to their guardians.

Interested guardians can register their orphans by obtaining and completing relevant application forms at the nearest centre of the Foundation or visit the Foundation’s website www.babakafiorphansfoundation.org.ng to complete the application forms online.

There is no limit to the number of orphans a guardian can register for sponsorship, which is awarded on merit.

Funding of Foundation activities are from the following sources:

  1. Donations from individuals and corporate bodies.
  2. Zakkah donations.
  1. How can I donate to the Foundation?

You can donate by visiting the Foundation’s Headquarters at No 6, Yankari Street, AMSSCO Platinum City Estate, Galadimawa, Abuja or any of the Foundation’s Centres listed on our website: www.babakafiorphansfoundation.org.ng. You may also call the Admin Officer of the Foundation, on: 08081283901.

You can donate money, learning materials such as exercise books, pencils, biros and school bags for distribution to the orphans and also food items for distribution to their guardians.

The Foundation does not operate and orphanage. It only provides scholarships and upkeep support for the orphans who reside with their guardians.

The Foundation does not own a school, but identifies good schools and enrol its orphans.

An orphan, according to the Foundation’s policy, is defined by the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) as a child who lost his/her father before reaching the age of puberty.

The Foundation selects an orphan based on the following criteria:

 

  1. The child must be an orphan in accordance with Islamic Jurisprudence (as defined above).
  2. There must be genuine desire of the guardian to provide the child with both Islamic and Western education.
  3. The economic status of the guardian must be that of a needy.
  4. Record of appreciable attendance and performance, if the child is in school already.
  5. Performance in aptitude tests conducted for children in Primary 1 to SSS if in school already.
  6. Availability of vacancy.

As at the commencement of the 2024/25 academic year, the Foundation is sponsoring 500 orphans in nursery, primary and secondary schools and 31 students in tertiary institutions. To date, over 800 orphans have benefitted from the Foundation’s sponsorship.       

As at the commencement of the 2024/25 academic year, the distribution is as follows:

Bauchi Zone which covers Bauchi and Jigawa States:        325 orphans and 25 students in tertiary institutions

Kaduna Centre which covers Kaduna and Kebbi States:   115 orphans and 3 students in tertiary institutions

FCT Centre which covers the Federal Capital Territory:    60 orphans and 3 students in tertiary institutions 

For now, the Foundation’s activities are in 4 states of the North and the FCT. The Foundation aspires to cover the entire country as soon as resources permit. As contained in the Foundation’s Vision Statement, the Foundation hopes to become a world class charity organization with tentacles beyond Nigeria in the near future.

The Foundation’s scholarship and sundry support are restricted to Muslims only.

The Foundation’s scholarship covers orphan’s education from enrolment to graduation.
